Fishing Sports Store: Are New Fishing Lures Worth the Hype?

Are New Fishing Lures Worth the Hype?
By John R. Olson

What fisherman hasn't been thrilled when at their favorite sporting goods store checking out the new fishing lures that arrived. As a fisherman we are always on the lookout for the new and improved version of what we have been using for years in the hopes that this will bring our fishing success to the next level. So if you are in the market for some new gear for your tackle box, sit back and enjoy the view.

Just be careful to not go too crazy. We all know that the shiny new fishing lure on the shelf is the answer to all our fishing prayers, but how about the last 10 "brand new" can't miss lures that were purchased in the previous dozen years or so? Were they not also the greatest thing since sliced bread? Why aren't you willing to use them anymore and instead hurl these current greatest thing in the world lure in their place? Sure there are always lures that will be improvements on the oldies and goodies, this is a great thing about the ingenuity of fishermen. However, remember that what worked last year and the year before is most likely going to work this year also. Heck, it might even work better now that you truly know how to fish it.

So, when you are filling up your cart with the next greatest thing, just make sure to add a healthy portion of what has worked so great for you in the previous years on the water. No sense reinventing the wheel when you already have something that works.

I doubt you will adhere to that last paragraph. We all have some serious hankering for some new fishing lures and if it means buying the next greatest thing and having to do without a few of our favorite older lures then so be it. Just realize that there is a reasonable chance that you are going to be disappointed with that brand spanking new lure.
